It’s that time of year again with the cool crisp breeze and smell of warm cinnamon and pumpkin spiced lattes in the air. I’m talking about fall, one of the more beloved times of year in the mountains. Who couldn’t enjoy the beauty of the leaves changing colors, colder nights perfect for warm snuggles and a toasty fire, and the terrifying nights of horror leading up to Halloween? That’s right. With fall comes one of the most terrifying times of the year along with all that other mushy stuff people like to post on Pinterest, but the thing most people come out to enjoy are the haunted houses, creepy corn fields, and the long walks down deserted roads all in an attempt to be terrified beyond belief and achieving that one controlled moment of horror that is sure to plague their nightmares.

One particular spot I’ve put off visiting is Pinhead’s Graveyard. Year after year I drive by the large sign located just off Asheville Highway near downtown Canton, it is a seemingly deserted stretch of land with only the warning sign written in black paint, “Pinhead’s Graveyard.” I’ve had my fair share of scary nights and cheap imitations so I was a little skeptical of what Pinhead’s Graveyard had to offer, but I left horrified and running to my car. After all, isn’t that why we visit places like this every year around this time?

Pinhead’s Graveyard isn’t like other haunted houses. There’s no waiting for the next scene to reset and the setting is something you can only experience in the mountains. The scene is one straight out of the horror movies and hand crafted by mother nature herself. A dark desolate road leads you into the thick of the forest where you have legendary serial killers such as Pinhead, Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, Leatherface, Otis, Victor Crowley, Jeepers Creepers, and the slasher from Scream all waiting for their next victim. The special effects aren’t held back and the middle of nowhere feel puts you in your favorite horror character’s shoes as you stumble through the woods searching for your way out.

With all the raving reviews and draws of crowds left screaming year after year, it’s no surprise that Pinhead’s Graveyard has made a name for itself as one of the top rated haunted tours and as one of the largest in the Southeast. The legacy around Pinhead’s Graveyard has also brought in some very famous guests that will be appearing at this years run, making this a one of a kind experience for horror movie fans.

From October 21st through October 22nd Dick Warlock, the actor who played Michael Myers in Halloween II will be there and from October 28th through October 31st R.A. Mihailoff, the former professional wrestler and actor who played Leatherface in Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III will be there to add even more to the experience. How many people can say they were scared by the actual people responsible for bringing to life Leatherface and Michael Myers on the big screen? Year after year, we watch their movies, clinging to the edge of our seats as we watch helpless victim after victim succumb to their instruments of torture and this year, you can experience it for yourself. Pinhead’s Graveyard comes highly recommended although it’s not for the faint of heart. I’ll leave you with a final warning, enter if you dare.
