The Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP) is a nonprofit organization designed to help local farms thrive, link farmers to markets and supporters, and to build healthy communities through connections to local food. Their main focus is local food sources and they strive to make the changes needed for our food system to be sustainable locally. They work to ensure that everyone has the social spaces, tools, means, and knowledge to transform the food system into one that is good for the health of the community and the people it provides for. They bring local food to schools and children, help farmers find markets and plan for their business, and develop markets and get people engaged in the food system and out to the farms.
One of the ways ASAP accomplishes these things is through hosting and supporting local functions surrounded with good food and good people. On Wednesday, November 9th from 6:30 pm until 9:30 pm, they are hosting their Get Local: Harvest Appalachia at Nightbell. The event will include a special multi-course meal prepared by Katie Button. The event will serve as a fundraiser to help support local food, strong farms, and healthy communities.
Katie Button, Nightbell’s Executive Chef and owner, works with local farmers and other small businesses to provide quality food to her customers. Nightbell is located at 32 S. Lexington Avenue, Asheville, North Carolina. The evening will start off with a welcoming cocktail known as the Hornet which includes vodka, apple shrub, Earl Grey tea, and prosecco, followed by the main course of Earl Grey-cured trout from Sunburst Trout Farms and Creasman Farms’ apples, fennel, brown butter, and goat cheese, and conclude with dessert and a closing cocktail of Go Down Moses which includes Carriage House apple brandy, walnut, orgeat, sychophant bitters. Tickets are currently on sale for $125 per person and included drink, tax, and gratuity.
