Want to explore the place where LEARNING comes into PLAY? Hands On!, the children’s museum located on Main Street in Downtown Hendersonville, is just the place. Hands On! provides educational exhibits and programs for children ages 1 – 10, and is a great way for families to spend the day together in a fun and affordable environment.
There is so much to do at Hands On! Museum. As you walk in the front doors, you are immediately captured by the mountain exibit where children can roam up and down the mountain, and there are spots to play in the water. Just the sound creates a very friendly environment! All the rooms of different scenery and role-playing can stretch out any imagination of play for children. There is even a theater with dress up options! Creative play is what Hands on! is all about!
Hands On! believes in the importance of play and fosters an environment that welcomes children to grow and learn through age-appropriate fun. This carefully thought out museum engages children in a variety of “hands on” activities, with exhibits such as:
- Hands On! Community Co-op, where children choose to be put in charge of the shopping or work the register. During the fun of collecting groceries, children add and subtract, plan nutritious meals, play at job roles and learn about family responsibilities and community giving.
- Build Your Brain teaches all ages about how our brains develop in the first years of life and the importance of providing opportunities to our youth to help them make brain connections. Opportunities for connections in this area include creating art on the giant en-LIGHT-en wall and building your own playground with giant blue blocks.
- Creative Arts, including a music room that promotes concentration and memorization, a stage with dress-up clothing to stimulate the imagination and an art area where children are provided the tools to be the artist – with paint, water or bubbles!
Along with exhibits, the Hands On! educators, Dr. Bunson & Dr. Beaker, offer special science programs both in the facility or traveling to area schools and libraries.
The museum is open to the public Tuesday – Saturday 10:00 – 5:00, with special summer and holiday hours offered. Admission is $5 per person, ages 1 – 100.
