Up Country Brewing Company is nestled in the heart of the Appalachian mountains in Asheville, North Carolina. A few words to describe Up Country when I first visited their brewing company were rustic, charming, and wholesome. What can I say? Their facilities reminded me of where I came from. They were the epitome of every country song and a true depiction of what you think the south should be. I felt at home.

But their specialty doesn’t just end with good beer. They take it a step further, bringing entertainment to their customers as well as good food and good drinks. One of the ways they have intertwined the local community to their place of business is with an event they call Old Time Jam. Old Time Jam is offered every Monday and usually features a local artist. The music is predominately of regional or local influence. Admission is free although you have to be over twenty one to participate and they encourage you to bring your own instrument to join in and sing along. This is a tradition that the area was known for in earlier years, a tradition that my grandparents and great grandparents participated in, gathering around good food and dancing and singing through the night until their hearts content.

Violins, banjos, guitars, and fiddles are a few of the instruments you’ll find at the Old Time Jam and on November 7th, the Old Time Jam will be featuring Mitch McConnell, a Finger Lakes, New York native with a love of the Old Time jams who now calls Asheville, North Carolina his hometown.

Old Time Jam begins at 6:30 pm and ends when the music stops. With free admissions, this entertainment fits just about any budget and gives locals a way to celebrate where they came from and visitors a chance to experience life in the mountains. I highly recommend stopping by when you have a chance.
