The Ooh La La Curiosity Market and Holiday Bazaar is a place for the people of Asheville to gather, socialize, and celebrate the local culture that Asheville, NC is known for. It’s an open market place that is in its fifth season of operation and takes applications for venders each year, allowing new and old artists alike a place to get together and show off their items to perusing customers.
It’s Saturday morning at Pritchard Park. The hustle and bustle of local artists and musicians can be seen setting up their booths, preparing for the day. As the sun rises, the crowds line the streets, browsing through the handmade pottery and one of a kind paintings offered for sale. The sound of live music travels through the crowds as the chatter and excitement of young children with their parents fills the warm and inviting atmosphere. Family and friends come to the area to show their appreciation for the local artists and it is a place that brings back my own childhood memories. I sit watching the people smiling and joking and it brings a smile to my face as I recall my own memories with my parents as we browsed through many of the local markets when I was growing up.
The community coming together to support each other is what it’s all about and the best part of all is that this particular market works to support not only artists and musicians local to Asheville, but also the no kill shelter, Animal Haven, located in East Asheville. Animal lovers alike can feel especially proud of their purchases knowing that they are there to support a good cause and help care for the animals in need of a home. It’s this kind of positive environment that really brings a community closer together and provides good exposure to tourists visiting the area. The Ooh La La Curiosity Market is definitely a treat for locals and visitors alike and if you’re lucky enough to be in town on a Saturday when the market is open, I highly recommend you take a few moments out of your day to come by and see one of the many reasons that makes Asheville such an amazing place to visit.
