Southern culture has had a strong influence in the art that has come from the region. It’s so ingrained in our way of life that it’s nearly impossible to separate out the art from the culture. Local artist Angelique Tassistro has embraced her heritage and used it to influence her art. Growing up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, she has roots deep in the south and it has served as her inspiration for her ceramic and functional pottery. Her work comes from her experiences as a child and growing up with her eccentric southern family. Vintage clothes made by her grandmother with old paintings and furniture served as her muse when she began her work in the world of art. After graduating from college, Angelique Tassistro opened up her own studio located in the River Arts District of Asheville.
Her pieces are reminiscent of antebellum and are a definite must have for those inspired by the popular trending decor of the south. Handcrafted works of art that are also functional make for perfect center pieces as they are displayed in their showcases. Her southern inspiration is easy to identify and will leave you wanting some for your own collection. Her color choices are regal and sophisticated, rich and vibrant, and their classic design gives the feel of expensive marble crafted into table wear.
If touring her art gallery leaves you wanting your own collection, Angelique Tassistro offers a selection of her pieces for purchase. These handcrafted items are truly a one of a kind art piece that will complement any home. She even offers wedding registries and allows for couples to sit down with her and design their own unique sets, handcrafted for their special day. It’s a very unique gift and one that the couple would be able to pass down throughout their family for generations to come.
