Steps away from the Biltmore house, the Stable Cafe is the place to visit for all your southern cuisine. Carved out from the remains of the former horse stables, this restaurant has an abundance of historical charm with delightful little elements of its past expertly interwoven with clean, modern elements. It really is the perfect place to drop by after you finish your tour of the Biltmore house and grab lunch before heading toward your next Asheville adventure.

strawberry mousseThis is the epitome of casual dining in a family-friendly atmosphere. You can enjoy a plethora of southern foods at this location including classic southern BBQ, rotisserie chicken, and key lime pie. You can’t really pick a bad dish on this menu. My personal favorite was the southern style trout with roasted broccolini and buttermilk mashed potatoes. There is nothing quite like fresh fish and mountain trout is one of the freshest around.

key lime pieLike most of the other restaurants in and around the estate, the Stable Cafe has a farm-to-table program that sources local materials to fill their kitchens with delicious flavors. One of the most admirable qualities about Biltmore’s program is the fact that they farm raise much of the food found on the estate, giving a nod to the estate’s agriculture past. See those cows in the distance? They’ll end up on the menu around the estate when it comes time.

Thinking of having your wedding at the Biltmore? The head chef at the Stable Cafe usually caters the events and is in charge of menu development. Needless to say, you’ll get a taste of the cutting edge of Biltmore cuisine.

stable cafe menuBest part of this restaurant is the atmosphere. How often can you claim that you ate lunch in a horse stall? Instead of feeling like you are in a dirty horse barn, the lighting and cleanliness leads you to more historical appreciation of the building’s past. Add that to the great food, you’ve got a memorable atmosphere and a fond memory to share with those back home.
Overall, this was a wonderful Biltmore dining experience. I would definitely recommend this particular restaurant.
